Self-help guru Wayne W. Dyer dies at 75

WayneDyerGreg Toppo – Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, the best-selling self-help guru and author of 30 books, died late Saturday, his family and publisher said. He was 75.

A posting on Dyer’s Facebook page said: “Wayne has left his body, passing away through the night. He always said he couldn’t wait for this next adventure to begin and had no fear of dying. Our hearts are broken, but we smile to think of how much our scurvy elephant will enjoy the other side.”

The posting was signed by his family. Within an hour, it had been shared more than 32,000 times.

Dyer died Saturday night in Maui, Hawaii, Reid Tracy, chief executive of Dyer’s publisher, Hay House, told NBC News. The cause of death wasn’t immediately reported, but he had been diagnosed with leukemia several years ago.

In an interview posted to the KPBS-TV, San Diego, website in 2012 after his leukemia diagnosis, Dyer said he’d begun looking at the illness as “just the body’s way of responding to, perhaps, psychological traumas, you know, from failed relationships in the past, or whatever it is, and that the body just always knows what it’s doing — and the body is perfect.”

6 Tips for Speeding up Bone Fracture Healing

Alexandra Preston – Whether you are a grade school student or a highly-paid professional athlete, a bone fracture can be a tremendous inconvenience that may involve weeks or months of healing and muscular re-training, especially if the fracture is treated with nothing more than a cast. Is there a better way? Here are the latest techniques that could speed up bone fracture healing and reduce the stress from injury.

Treating Fractures with Ultrasound and Electromagnetic Field Therapy

bone1. and 2. Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) and pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF) are two options used by a number of athletes for promoting repair. A review of 8 studies has noted that both of these treatments can be effective in speeding tibial fracture healing.

One of the papers reviewed found a reduction in healing time of 12 days among non-smokers treated with LIPUS (84 days versus 96 days) for clinical healing, and a reduction of 33 days for healing with PEMF (96 days instead of 129). Even in smokers using these therapies healing time is reduced, 103 days versus 175 in the control group using LIPUS and 96 days versus 175 in the control group using PEMF. Continue reading

The Biodiversity Of Social Networks

summer
Sven Krumrey

Sven Krumrey – Do you like humans? Every human? Kudos to anyone who can answer yes to both questions! A friend of mine postulated that 50% of humanity is made up of disgruntled individuals, an extreme view, admittedly. But it’s feasible, especially when you take a closer look at social networks. What was originally a meeting place for nerds has become a representative cross-section of our society, pros and cons notwithstanding. Still, it’s quite easy to figure out what type of person you’re dealing with….

Someone writes “Summer’s here, the trees are sprouting!” in a Facebook group.

The fact freak

“No, no, noooo. Summer doesn’t start before June 21, around the summer solstice. Why don’t you use Google before you write something like that.”.

The fact freak was still in his romper, neatly decorated with the Smurfs, when he read his first encyclopedia and lost his sense of humor. Ever since then, he’s been on a holy crusade to provide everyone around him with facts and to rebuke people. His wife comes to his defense with the phrase “Other men smoke!”.

The resident historian

“Interestingly, it is rather late for summer. Compared to the summer of ’79, we are two weeks behind and in ’66 it was already this warm in March.”

You don’t care about yesterday’s weather? The resident historian does and he cares about many other odd things, too. He can tell you when bus number 2 still went all the way up to the industrial area, why the butcher shop down at the railway depot shut down and what color the lids on the garbage can had a long time ago. He frowns on anyone who doesn’t appreciate his wisdom and loves to be the treasurer of his local tourist club.

The aggro guy

“Hallelujah, lovely foliage isn’t it? Love ticks? And who will be raking up all those leafs at the end of the day? How can you be so naive????”.

The Gatekeeper

mind“The sorcerers of ancient Mexico were quite ill at ease with the idea of when [the predator] made its appearance on Earth. They reasoned that man must have been a complete being at one point, with stupendous insights, feats of awareness that are mythological legends nowadays. And then, everything seems to disappear, and we have now a sedated man. What I’m saying is that what we have against us is not a simple predator. It is very smart, and organized. It follows a methodical system to render us useless. Man, the magical being that he is destined to be, is no longer magical. He’s an average piece of meat. There are no more dreams for man but the dreams of an animal who is being raised to become a piece of meat: trite, conventional, imbecilic.

In order to keep us obedient and meek and weak, the predators engaged themselves in a stupendous manoeuvre stupendous, of course, from the point of view of a fighting strategist. A horrendous manoeuvre from the point of view of those who suffer it. They gave us their mind! Do you hear me? The predators give us their mind, which becomes our mind. The predators’ mind is baroque, contradictory, morose, filled with the fear of being discovered any minute now.

Think for a moment, and tell me how you would explain the contradictions between the intelligence of man the engineer and the stupidity of his systems of beliefs, or the stupidity of his contradictory behaviour. Sorcerers believe that the predators have given us our systems of belief, our ideas of good and evil, our social mores. They are the ones who set up our hopes and expectations and dreams of success or failure. They have given us covetousness, greed, and cowardice. It is the predators who make us complacent, routinary, and egomaniacal.” – Carlos Castaneda.

The predator and the politics of deception

Elva Thompson – All my life I have strived for animal rights, and have faced many challenges, triumphs and defeats, but now, when I look back at the success and failures, a different perspective of reality emerges.

I remember how relieved I was when hunting with dogs was abolished in the UK. However, it didn’t take me long to realise that the legislation had no teeth… and was never intended to. Continue reading

Multiple things are happening in the sky today to change the energetics of the way life feels and what we experience:

SUN OPPOSES NEPTUNE/EARTH CONJUNCTS NEPTUNE: This only happens one day each year. This year, a flood of emotions and clarity brings forward plans for the future. Lines are drawn;connections are made. Our decisions and actions are always motivated by what we value, but today it clearly stands out and is easy to see. In turn, what others value is also evident. Things may develop quite swiftly and may require additional attention or quick judgment. The Earth and Neptune are conjunct (in the same place in the sky) and co-disseminating the energy of 9 Pisces – “the race begins; intent on outdistancing his rivals, a jockey spurs his horse to great speed.” Continue reading
