Know the Causes and Symptoms of Atrial Fibrillation

Julie Fidler – Atrial fibrillation, or AFib, affects between 2.7 and 6.1 million people in the United States. Approximately 9% of people over the age of 65 are afflicted with this heart condition. [2]

AFib is the most common type of heart arrhythmia. The disorder occurs when the heart beats too slowly, too quickly, or in an irregular way, and the blood doesn’t flow properly from the atria to the lower two ventricles of the heart. It can be an off-and-on occurrence, or it can be permanent. [1]

AFibPeople with AFib may feel shortness of breath after minimal physical activity. They may experience heart palpitations that feel like the heart is beating too slowly, or like it is flip-flopping, skipping beats or racing. The symptoms of atrial fibrillation can also feel like having butterflies in your chest, or like your heart won’t stop pounding.

Just because you don’t feel the symptoms of AFib doesn’t mean you don’t have the arrhythmia, and it doesn’t mean you can’t suffer the consequences of the disorder. About 750,000 people are hospitalized with atrial fibrillation every year in the U.S., and it contributes to more than 130,000 deaths each year.

This medical condition increases a person’s risk for stroke by 4-5 times compared with people who don’t have AFib. Over the past 20 years, the death rate from AFib as the primary or contributing cause of death has been rising steadily. [2] Continue reading

Former U.S. Comptroller: National Debt is $65 Trillion, Not $18 Trillion

trillionMichael Tennant – In June, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) put the U.S. government’s debt at a staggering $18 trillion. But according to a former U.S. comptroller general, the actual debt is $65 trillion — more than triple the official figure — and it isn’t going to improve as long as politicians continue to put their personal and partisan interests ahead of the nation’s.

David Walker, who served as the head of the Government Accountability Office (GAO) from 1998 to 2008, told John Catsimatidis, host of “The Cats Roundtable” on New York radio station WNYM, that there’s much more to the debt than just what the government currently owes.

“If you end up adding to that $18.5 trillion the unfunded civilian and military pensions and retiree healthcare, the additional underfunding for Social Security, the additional underfunding for Medicare, various commitments and contingencies that the federal government has, the real number is about $65 trillion rather than $18 trillion, and it’s growing automatically absent reforms,” Walker said Sunday.

Even Walker’s calculations may understate the seriousness of the situation. Earlier this year Boston University economics professor Laurence Kotlikoff told the Senate Budget Committee that when all future financial obligations are taken into consideration, as of 2014 — when the CBO claimed the national debt was $13 trillion — Uncle Sam owed a whopping $210 trillion.

In truth, it is impossible to know just how deep the pool of red ink in Washington is. All projections of future debt are based on certain assumptions about economic growth, tax rates, interest rates, entitlements, discretionary spending, and so on. If any of these changes — and all of them probably will — the actual debt may end up being considerably larger or smaller than forecast. Nevertheless, even by the CBO’s reckoning, there is a serious problem.

The GMO Cookie is Crumbling

monsantoDr. Joseph Mercola –  In March 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which is the research arm of the World Health Organization (WHO), determined glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide, to be a “probable carcinogen” (Class 2A).

This determination was based on evidence showing the popular weed killer can cause non-Hodgkin lymphoma and lung cancer in humans, along with “convincing evidence” it can also cause cancer in animals.

Monsanto has maintained that the classification as a carcinogen is wrong and continues to tout glyphosate (and Roundup) as one of the safest pesticides on the planet. However, they’ve now been slapped with a growing number of lawsuits alleging they’ve long known that Roundup’s glyphosate could harm human health.

Reuters reported: “ ‘[Monsanto] led a prolonged campaign of misinformation to convince government agencies, farmers, and the general population that Roundup was safe… We can prove that Monsanto knew about the dangers of glyphosate,’ said Michael McDivitt, whose Colorado-based law firm is putting together cases for 50 individuals. ‘There are a lot of studies showing glyphosate causes these cancers.’ ”

In fact, internal Monsanto documents reveal they knew over 30 years ago that glyphosate caused adenomas and carcinomas in the rats they studied – and that’s only the beginning of Monsanto’s trouble. As each day goes by, the GMO (genetically modified organism) cookie continues to crumble…

Monsanto Asks California to Withdraw Glyphosate on Its Carcinogen List

California environmental officials intend to add glyphosate to their Proposition 65 list of cancer-causing chemicals. Established in California in 1986, Proposition 65 requires consumer products with potential cancer-causing ingredients to bear warning labels.

Rather than label their products sold in California as likely carcinogenic, most companies reformulated their product ingredients so as to avoid warning labels altogether, and they did this on a national scale, not just in California. Continue reading

How Anxiety Works & What You Can Do To Dissolve It

Dr. Tomasz Kopec – I work as a family doctor and I often see patients complaining of anxiety and panic attacks. At one time, my local counseling service was very slow and the only help I could offer those people was a promise that someone will contact them in 2-3 months.

It did not sound right to me. I was letting my patients down.

I had to find a way to help them during my appointments. I had 10 minutes for one patient and I quickly realized that it was impossible to have a lengthy discussion about anxiety within this time. Problems related to anxiety were always complicated and took time to explain.

I had to find a method of helping them without listening to the story.

I started researching it and I was surprised to learn that there are quite a few such methods around. I tried one of them on my friends and my family and I found it very effective. It did not suit everyone, but there was a good number of people reporting a significant improvement. And it really did not matter what they were anxious about. The story was not important. What mattered was HOW they knew they were anxious.

This Is How I Help My Patients To Realize How Anxiety Works

First I ask them to become anxious about this ‘thing’ while they sit in front of me. It is usually very easy. Then I ask them to grade the anxiety on a scale from one to ten. It takes a few moments. Once the number is decided I ask them to become a bit more anxious and jump one point higher on the scale. They are usually surprised with this request but after a short while everyone does it.
