How To Stop Bad Vibes: Strategies To Neutralize Negativity

Andrea Schulman –  We all encounter bad vibes from time to time. Being around negative people or having a negative experience can set any of us in a bad mood, even if we pride ourselves on being positive people. In times like these, you might be interested in learning how to stop bad vibes from taking over and sending you into a vibrational tailspin.

negativitySo here are a few things you can do to neutralize negativity and get yourself back into a more positive mindset. Be aware, though, that the very first thing you will want to do is accept your negativity. Remember-the goal here isn’t to fight negativity, because that will only bring more of it into your life. Instead, it’s best to allow it to be there and accept it before you attempt to let it go.

In other words, if you’re mad-be mad for a minute. Let it be ok to get out your frustration a little. Release the pressure, so to speak.

Once you’ve accepted your negativity but find yourself ready to release it and move on, try out one of these strategies to let it go!.

1. Take a break from whatever you’re doing

If you are in the middle of an activity and you feel bad vibes start to amplify, stop what you’re doing. Take a break and come back to it when you are centered. There’s no sense in trying to tackle your work, do your chores or hold a conversation when you are emitting bad vibes, because you’ll only get bad results. So take a break, and tell yourself you’ll come back to what you were doing when you are in a better vibrational place.

I always think of this funny scene from the movie Anger Management whenever it’s time to take a break. Adam Sandler’s character is stressed out and running late to work and his therapist (Jack Nicholson) makes him stop driving in the middle of the street until he calms down. If you aren’t actually “doing” anything but are just thinking about something you’re upset about, take a break from the thoughts. Tell yourself you are going to focus on something else for a little bit and you will think about this problem later when you feel better.

2. Take a nap

Sleep is great because it automatically raises your vibration. When we are sleeping we are connected and our energy is realigned. You might find this strategy difficult when you are angry or anxious, but when you are feeling sad or depressed it is a good one to try out. Before falling asleep, set your intention to wake up feeling refreshed and in a better place.

3. Meditate

Meditating is a great way to clear your mind of negative thoughts at any time. When you feel your thoughts and emotions taking a turn for the worse, it can be highly beneficial to take 10 or 15 minutes out and meditate to find your inner peace.

4. Think about something or someone you love intently

What are the three things or people you love most in the world? Identify what they are right now, and when you find yourself wanting to release negativity, pick one and spend a few minutes thinking about all of the reasons why you love them.

I like to think about my children, and how cute I think they are, the funny things they say and do and the unconditional love they give me. I picture my favorite moments with them in my mind and relive some of my happiest moments with them.

Thinking about the things we are the most grateful and happy about in our lives can be a powerful tool when we are trying to neutralize negativity.

5. Go for a drive

Going for a drive is an awesome way to transform bad vibes. Driving allows you to physically get away from your problems for a while with a change of scenery, while at the same time enjoying the benefits of movement.

Movement helps to raise your vibration automatically, because the faster we are moving, the faster our energy is moving. This is why activities like sledding, waterskiing or going on roller coasters can be so much fun. Even better, while you are driving you can always turn on some music to improve your mood even further. Just be sure you are selecting uplifting and happy music, rather than music that is sad or angry!

  1. take a walk would be a good strategy. taking a drive for some of us when feeling negative or upset may not be a good idea. it isn’t safe to drive then.
