According to the Washington Post, Hillary Clinton’s former chief of staff – Cheryl Mills – abruptly walked out of a recent FBI interview after investigators broached a subject Mills considered “off-limits.” Mills and her lawyer ultimately returned to the interview, but the incident highlights how close the FBI may be getting to a case they can take to the Justice Department.
Mills was reportedly unwilling to answer questions regarding the process through which Clinton provided her emails to the State Department. Mills, who is an attorney, claims that she would be violating attorney-client privilege by disclosing that information to the FBI.
Hmm. But hasn’t Clinton publicly encouraged all of her aides to cooperate fully with the investigation? Or is there a caveat to that directive that didn’t make the papers? Something along the lines of: Cooperate with them, of course, but don’t tell them the truth about what we really did.
Clinton is no stranger to federal investigations, after all. Together with her husband, she has dodged and dived her way through numerous scandals to emerge (relatively) unscathed. Her explanation for this, as we know, is that “vast right-wing conspiracy” that’s always trying to bring her family down. But it’s funny how this so-called conspiracy has never targeted Barack Obama for a criminal investigation. And there’s more hatred out there for him than there ever was for Bill or Hillary.
No, the Clintons have brought these investigations on themselves through a lifetime of shady practices in both public and private life. Donald Trump’s nickname for her – Crooked Hillary – may not be particularly catchy, but it certainly hits the nail on the head. Everything this woman touches winds up tainted with corruption.
Yet she always seems to survive. For her supporters, this is proof of her and her husband’s innocence. But for anyone not blinded by zealotry, there’s a much more believable explanation: The Clintons have the power, skill, and money to worm their way out of trouble. They not only consider themselves above the law, they have spent the last thirty years proving that they actually are.
This history gives us little hope for an indictment, but her reckless disregard for national security will plague her throughout the election. And as disappointing as it will be to miss out on Hillary’s imprisonment, seeing her lose in November would go a long way towards easing the pain.
