Fear is a Gift and Here is Why

fearDanielle Benvenuto – Fear is an inner guidance system, an evolutionary necessity, which warns us when something is wrong. It is our fight or flight response which protects and, if we choose, elevates us. If we choose not to become frozen in time-fleeing from things that are no longer harmful to us and/or fighting battles that no longer need to be fought.

I don’t believe fear is a bad thing. In fact, I think it is a gift — a blank canvas of opportunity that takes on a negative or positive quality in our lives depending on how we choose to navigate it and something we can either reject or be open to receiving.

It has a Jekyll and Hyde energy to it and can manifest as darkness-a gloomy cloud hovering and taking over one’s life sometimes in the form of destruction or as a life force-a frenetic and seemingly chaotic energy which uses its disturbing force to ask us to transform and create our lives anew. We need to integrate the Jekyll and Hyde of fear instead of polarize it so we can do just that-transform and create the lives we want. Continue reading

Life is Sometimes a Rough and Tumble Sport

angerMary O’Malley – Life is sometimes a rough and tumble sport. As somebody once said, “Life isn’t always a bowl of cherries.” I have been experiencing a lot of pain because of degeneration in my spine and when I woke up this morning my mind was just mad, really mad. It was tired of the constantly insistent pain and disturbed sleep.

For most of us, when life is tough, our minds get frustrated and irritated. Then, if the difficulty continues, our minds get angry and even rageful. Think of somebody in a jam-packed rush-hour traffic getting out of their car and raging at the situation and other people.

While most of us don’t get lost in rage, our minds do get irritated and angry. What do we do with our frustrations? We yell at the TV screen or get upset with the overly slow checkout person or dump it on the people closest to us. This doesn’t have to be like the rage-filled person on the freeway. It can be a silent, seething anger, or a passive aggressive anger or a subtly judgmental anger. Continue reading

Dark Jewels: Mining The Gifts Of 8 Difficult Emotions

Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It is a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity. — Pema Chodron

fearJack Adam Weber –  Unless we look into and skillfully navigate our dark sides, we can’t become our fullest selves. Consequently, we can’t truly love ourselves and the world as much as we are capable. Following Pema Chodron’s reasoning: if we cannot bear our own pain, how can we bear the pain of others? If we are afraid of our own suffering, how can we genuinely stand with another in theirs and thereby be the friend possible?

Below I list eight natural, universal emotions that at first blush we might feel like avoiding. This list is a kind of treasure hunt, revealing what we get to discover when we welcome and allow these at first uncomfortable feelings to be, and eventually change us from our depths on up through our heart and mind. For this growth to happen, we first have to be honest with ourselves—to be aware of what we are feeling and able to name it. Then we can embrace the feelings and go from there. Continue reading

Anger
“Black owl” – Photographer Eva

Laura Walker – Wise owls, be prepared for anger levels to progressively rise today as Mars enters Aquarius, joining the Black Moon.

Aquarius rules changes– rapid changes, in fact.

We recall that the Black Moon rules the cycles of death and rebirth, renaissance, and the personal and collective shadow sides.  Mars rules our energy, initiative, will and willpower, anger, and anger’s flip side – depression.

The South Node is also right there with Mars and the Black Moon, and the South Node rules the past.

So, the “equation” is:

Mars + Black Moon + South Node in Aquarius = Anger about things that have been unknown, unrecognized, or even hidden brings about initiative for positive, revolutionary changes.

We open to changes, understanding that “growing pains” are part of the process.

With this knowledge under wing, we endeavor to turn today’s events in our lives and in the world into wisdom.  We see that the anger, violence, and war is turning our world into something else.  We trust the data that shows us the tide has turned and the control systems are falling.  The Satya Yuga (The Golden Time) is upon us. Mars Retro: Anger and other Energy needing Expression

angerDana Mrkich – Happy Solstice everyone! It’s the shortest day of the year for us in the Southern Hemisphere, and longest in the Northern.

We also have Mars, the planet of “energy needing expression”, preparing to go retrograde next week. Retrograde periods highlight and intensify the influence of a planet, making us more aware of how we’re using a particular energy in our life. With Mars, it can bring up: anger, rage, explosive outbursts or aggression.

It’s a time to look at why these emotions are coming up:

What is really being triggered? What underlying issue is wanting your attention?

What is your habitual response when it comes to anger? Do you shut down, suppress it or project it?

Do you need to change this response? Do you need to learn to express yourself and your needs in a more assertive way?

Mars retro can also increase your desire to be physically active or vice versa enforce or encourage a period of rest.

It’s also a great time to cook up creative ideas that you can implement a few months down the road.
