Rep. Tom Price, selected by Donald Trump for HHS Secretary, voted for the DARK Act

priceMike Adams – This morning, President elect Donald Trump announced his pick for Secretary of Health and Human Services: Rep. Tom Price, a Republican from Georgia.

Before serving in Congress, Price was an orthopedic surgeon, and he’s well known for being a strong, vocal critic of the Obamacare fiasco (Affordable Care Act).

“He is exceptionally qualified to shepherd our commitment to repeal and replace Obamacare and bring affordable and accessible healthcare to every American,” announced Donald Trump.

Sadly, Tom Price is also among the many Republicans who voted for the so-called “DARK Act,” a bill that outlawed state-level mandatory GMO labeling laws like the one passed in Vermont. Mike Pompeo, a Republican from Kansas, also voted for the DARK Act, and he has already been appointed by Donald Trump to head the CIA.

A vote in favor of the DARK Act means a vote against consumer transparency about what they’re buying and eating in their food. It’s a red flag against both Tom Price and Mike Pompeo, as it indicates they have both functioned as part of the “Monsanto establishment” that has long sought to keep people in the dark while feeding them unlabeled GMOs. The question on everyone’s mind is: Will these two individuals now represent the People, or are they still bought off by Monsanto?

ANALYSIS: Let’s judge these people on what they do after Inauguration Day

What’s my take on this? We all know that Monsanto has infiltrated every establishment and political party in America. It’s almost impossible to find anyone in a position of regulatory or legislative authority who hasn’t already been influenced, threatened or bought out by the deeply corrupt biotech industry. The overreach of corporatism in America is systemic and insidious.

DARK Act defeated in U.S. Senate

Lawmakers receive tidal wave of calls from angry food consumers who are tired of being LIED to about GMO in their food

labelingMike Adams – The DARK Act was defeated in the U.S. Senate today, achieving a massive victory for consumers and also for the Environmental Working Group, which helped organize large-scale opposition to the bill.

The DARK Act would have outlawed state-level GMO labeling laws nationwide, condemning American food consumers to remaining completely in the dark over the genetically engineered content of their food.

Natural News thanks all our readers who took action to help defeat the DARK Act. We are fighting for your right to know what you’re eating, and with your help, we really can defeat Monsanto and its minions like Ted Cruz. (“Monsatan’s Preacher.”)

Tidal wave of calls slammed Senators nationwide

I spoke to industry insiders this morning who confirmed that the offices of many U.S. Senators were hit hard with a “tidal wave of calls” from concerned Americans. Even many Republican senators are starting to come around on this issue, and GMO labeling continues to gain steam across the country as food consumers increase their demand for honest food labels and overall food transparency.

The Environmental Working Group released a statement on the victory: Continue reading

PREEMPTION: The Legal Principle Used By Big Biotech To Get GMO Labeling Banned

gmoMakia Freeman – Preemption is the legal principle being trotted out in the last couple of years by politicians and judges ruling on biotechnology and GMO cases. Big Biotech has seized upon the principle of preemption, and unfortunately but unsurprisingly, is now using it with gusto to prevent states, counties and municipalities from passing and enacting ordinances, moratoriums or other laws to curb the use of GMOs. That way Monsanto can control the Federal Congress Supreme Court and White House without having to control very single state or local government.

Preemption was again used in HR 1599, the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015 (dubbed by many the DARK Act, or Denying Americans the Right to Know Act), a bill which was recently passed and which is another classic example Orwellian doublespeak in its name. The bill does nothing to produce “safety” or “accuracy” around GMOs – it prevents restrictions on unsafe GMOs and GMO labeling, and keeps Americans in the dark when it comes to accurately knowing what their food is and where it comes from.

What is Preemption?

Preemption is the legal principle that when a law from a higher court and lower court conflict, the law from the higher court displaces or takes precedence over the law from the lower court. In the case of the USA, people argue that when federal and state law conflict, federal law preempts state law due to the Supremacy Clause (Article 5, Paragraph 2) of the US Constitution (there are some who argue that the States created the Federal Government and therefore should be higher in law, but unfortunately the Supreme Court has ruled the Federal Government takes supremacy, so now we have hundreds of years of legal precedent. The Federal Government has taken the power unto itself and it’s going to be difficult to wrest control back from them). Continue reading
