A Last Quarter Moon of Emotional Belonging

Last Quarter MoonLeslie Benson – The Last Quarter Moon, exact on Monday, October 21 at 5:39 am Pacific Time, occurs in the cardinal water sign of Cancer at 27º plus. The Moon in its own sign of Cancer now means, for everyone, that emotion and intuition is heightened, while concerns for security and comfort come to the fore.

The Last Quarter Moon phase itself brings an awareness of the waning light in our monthly cycle, a factor that is true at this time of the year for our current seasonal cycle as well, as we wind down autumn head into winter here in the Northern Hemisphere. This autumn timing represents the turning point in the growing cycle where the excitement and jubilance of the harvest is beginning to settle, and the practicality of preparing for winter sets in.

The trees show us the way of letting go of that which is no longer needed by shedding their leaves, returning them to the soil as mulch and nutrients, in order to nurture and grow the future seeds. So, too, may we humans shed that which is no longer needed, as we venture through another turn of the cycle.

A Last Quarter Moon of Truth and Karmic Release

earthLeslie Benson – The Last Quarter Moon on Friday, April 26, takes place at the 6-degree mark of the broad-sighted and humanitarian sign of Aquarius, making a square aspect to the Sun at the same degree of earth-oriented Taurus. Because the last quarter of the lunar cycle generally represents a releasing and letting go, our awareness may be turned now toward what is in our midst that is no longer serving, and allowing those things to dissolve and shed away so that something new can be born.

With Uranus also conjunct the Sun in this Last Quarter Moon, our intuition is quite strong. With the trickster archetype of Uranus so greatly emphasized, it is entirely possible that unexpected information and greater consciousness regarding our situation will be an important factor in the result. And with the addition of the Aquarian flavored Moon vibes, we may be noticing what there is in the collective affairs of society that is being dismantled and coming undone.

A Last Quarter Moon of Difficult Yet Optimistic Evolution

HaumeaHenry Seltzer – Friday morning’s Last Quarter Moon presents a revised vision of the outer planet themes that have been present in the astrology all this year, most especially as revealed in the New Moon eclipse from mid-February that began the current cycle. These have been difficult for us to navigate, and yet also exciting, to the extent that we can rise above obstacles and make important progress with higher goals, implying that by so doing we advance our own spiritual evolution in a significant way.

This lunar phase in any case represents a shift in attitude in response to what has been learned through the course of the past three weeks, as we move through these challenging and yet stimulating astrological currents. In this current timing the Sun is conjunct Neptune, a planet that was also quite significant in the recent March 1st Full Moon, while the antithetical presence of Saturn, in early Capricorn, is also emphasized now. A Last Quarter Moon of Ongoing Transformation

last quarter moonHenry Seltzer – Saturday evening’s Last Quarter Moon (late evening [Dec 9th] on the East Coast) has some quite interesting features, especially when viewed in the context of what we already have going on in this particular lunation cycle stemming from the Scorpio New Moon from last month. That powerful lunation featured Uranus and Pluto, with Neptune also invoked in the recent Gemini Full Moon.

All three outer planets, plus Saturn parallel Pluto, and now a Mercury Retrograde that began in close conjunction with Saturn… this is a potent recipe indeed, so that all kinds of issues are rising to the surface in our individual lives, hopefully for some form of resolution, or the beginnings of resolution.

A Last Quarter Moon of Personal Power and Universal Kinship

moonHenry Seltzer – The Last Quarter Moon phase represents the time of the lunar cycle when there is an opportunity for re-orientation, renegotiation, or finding new truth in light of what has come to pass since the New Moon. It is the time when the light reflected by the Moon is diminishing and waning into darkness.

This cycle’s New Moon in Taurus and Full Moon in Scorpio brought heightened themes of desire, value, resources, and power. You may wish to ask yourself what is and isn’t working for you in regard to how you value and embody your personal authority, and perhaps also how you see or experience power dynamics playing out in the world at large.

This particular lunation brings our attention to the themes of valuing self and relational exploration, and there may a new leaf turning for you, there. Venus in Aries is in opposition to Jupiter Libra, so that events arising now could bring further awareness to ways of navigating relationships with the interests and needs of all parties in mind.
