America’s Glass Is Half Full

America's Glass Is Half FullDouglas Schwartz – It is too easy to get caught up in the political moment and conclude that the glass is half-empty.  From a perspective extending across years and decades, profound transitions are currently occurring that provide hope.  Coming months and years will undoubtedly be chaotic, but eventually and inexorably, America will emerge far stronger.  There are many silver linings in the gathering stormclouds.

In 2016, two outsiders engineered hostile takeover attempts of the two establishment parties chosen as their vessels: Sanders and Trump.  They represented a revolt of debt slaves against oligarchic masters.  Sanders (who never registered as a Democrat and only caucuses with them) was deprived of the Democrat nomination by Hillary, Inc., while Trump’s takeover continues apace.  Decades were required to establish the underlying conditions leading to this populist revolt. George Soros on His Globalist Masterplan: ‘Tide Has Turned Against Me’

sorosSean Adl-Tabatabai – Billionaire globalist George Soros has admitted that his lifelong quest to make America more socialist has been hindered by President Donald Trump.

“Between the election of President Trump and Britain’s ongoing debate over Brexit, the billionaire philanthropist George Soros recognizes that populism is on the rise and that his brand of liberal democracy is faltering,” said Michel Martin, host of All Things Considered on the Soros-funded NPR.

“When I got involved in what I call political philanthropy some 40 years ago, the open society idea was on the ascendant — closed societies were opening up,”  Soros said.

“And now, open societies are on the defensive and dictatorships are on the rise.” Continue reading

Populism in America: “Follow the Money”

empireCharles Hugh Smith – One of the most disturbing failures of the mainstream media in this election cycle was its complete lack of historical context for Trump’s brand of populism. If you consumed the mainstream media’s coverage of the campaign and election, you noted their obsession with speech acts (as opposed to concrete actions), personalities and conspiracy theories pinning American populism on Russian propaganda.

The mainstream media dismisses populism by pushing two absurdly ignorant narratives:

1. Populism (we’re told) always leads to authoritarian rules and/or fascism (i.e. Nazism). All populist movements are therefore tarred with the Nazism brush: no good could possibly come from Populist movements because they always lead to fascism.

This is convenient for the apologists of the embattled status quo, but it’s utterly false:America’s enormous populist movements have never led to fascism.

2. Since the status quo is wonderful and America’s economy is strong, dissent or populism cannot be home-grown–it must be the work of the Devil, in the guise of “foreign propaganda.”

Notice the classic propaganda ploy being deployed here: since dissent is impossible in a regime as well-managed and prosperous as America’s status quo, populism must be driven and controlled by evil foreign agents.

This is laughably absurd: America’s populist movements, including the present one, have been revolts against the concentrated wealth and power of self-serving status quo elites.
