Tijuana Mayor: The “Real Criminals” are Those Who Organized the Caravans

migrantsRestore American Glory – The left’s least-favorite Mexican, Tijuana Mayor Juan Manuel Gastélum, said in an interview with Fox News this week that he held the organizers of the migrant caravans personally responsible for putting people’s lives in danger.

“Those are the real criminals,” he said of the organizers, “because they’re dealing with the lives of people.”

The mayor said that Tijuana residents were reaching their collective limit with the thousands of migrants who are currently camping out in a soccer stadium, among other locations in the city. Because the migrants cannot enter the U.S. and because the Mexican government is doing little to relieve the situation, the city of Tijuana is being forced to bear the costs of providing aid to the weary travelers.

The mayor is hopeful that new Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will take a more proactive view when it comes to Central American migration. He is also hopeful that the federal government will provide financial aid to Tijuana, which he says lost out on more than $6 million in revenue for the six hours during which the U.S. closed the border last weekend.

“I’m not going to break public services to solve this problem,” Gastélum said.

Unfortunately, things may get (much) worse before they get better. Not only are there reports of additional caravans coming north from Central America, the health situation among the migrants currently in Tijuana is deteriorating rapidly. The local health department says that more than 2,000 migrants have been treated for various diseases and health problems including tuberculosis, HIV, chicken pox, lice, and indeterminate respiratory infections. How long can it be before these diseases and health problems spread to the general population?

And we’re really supposed to let these people into the United States? Uh-huh.

The truth is, the migrants of the caravan have already violated international norms and laws governing those seeking asylum. These migrants are to accept the first offer of asylum they get, or there need be no further obligation on the part of the United States. Mexico has offered them this asylum, and many thousands of them have turned it down, still hoping to score that golden ticket from the Trump administration.

We can only assume that they don’t get a lot of news broadcasts down there in Honduras, or these migrants would have known that President Trump was in no mood to allow this to happen.
