Décor Tips for An Indian Wedding

Décor is an exceedingly important consideration for weddings, sangeet, haldi, cocktail and reception ceremonies. Décor and food presentation set the tone and are the main ingredients for success.

Obviously for the best result you must budget your funds so that you don’t go overboard on the décor.

Here are some things to consider while deciding the kind of décor you want for your wedding (or any other) function.

Location and Time

The wedding décor depends on venue – whether indoors or outdoors. Time of day is also an important consideration. An indoor venue like a beautiful marriage hall in Bangalore would not require a lot of lighting in terms of décor because it has its own lighting. One can use drapes and flowers to good effect at an indoor venue to enhance its beauty. If your wedding is outdoors and at night, again, there’s a lot that can be done with lights and flowers.

Color Scheme

The color scheme is the most important aspect of your decor. If it is a night function, rich color combinations are recommended as part of the décor. Black and white with gold are evergreen combinations, but you can also combine gold with maroon, emerald green, royal blue etc.

Peach, lavender, combinations of shades of blue and green are other popular color combinations. For day weddings, you can use shades such as yellow, peach, pink, lavender, blue, green and so many others. Whichever color scheme you choose, your drapes, flowers, seating will all be coordinated in the same colors.

Lighting

Lighting is a very important part of wedding décor. Lighting can make a venue look bigger or smaller than it is. It can attract attention to certain areas and it can create the right atmosphere.

Chandeliers are a good choice for lighting, be it an indoor or an outdoor venue. They look rich and opulent and graceful. One can even light up fountains, trees and other structures at the venue with strings of fairy lights to make the venue a beautiful wonderland. It is also quite trendy to create a standing frame and place hundreds of tea lights at varying heights.

If it is an outdoor venue, and you have a path for guests to walk on, you can place multiple diyas on either side of the walkway. These also provide for excellent photo ops.

Flowers

No discussion on wedding décor can be complete without discussing flower décor. Flowers are the most commonly used decoration. One can do so much with flowers. All you need to do is decide on the type of flowers and the colour of the flowers to be used. Roses in various colours, jasmine, lilies, tuberoses and of course, marigolds are popular choice of flowers. Flowers are also the most popular choice for stage décor and for centrepieces on tables.

When it comes to décor, you are only limited by your imagination. There is so much that can be done with the various elements of décor available today. Wedding décor can be as simple or as elaborate as you want it to be.
