House Dems Quietly Plotting Ways to Reopen Government Without Border Wall Funding

border wall fundingCristina Laila – House Democrats are quietly plotting ways to reopen the government while stiffing President Trump every penny on border wall funding as soon as they regain power next week.

House Speaker designate Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other top Dems are kicking around several options that would deny President Trump the $5 billion he is requesting to build several hundred miles of border wall, according to a new report by far-left Politico.

The Democrats are hoping to push through a short-term funding bill to reopen government agencies until the first week of February. The Senate recently approved of a similar stopgap funding bill so the House Dems are confident they can put pressure on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) again.

President Trump however is putting tremendous pressure on Republicans such as McConnell and other leaders to fight for wall funding

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and her top lieutenants are considering several options that would refuse Trump the $5 billion he’s demanded for the wall and send hundreds of thousands of furloughed federal employees back to work, according to senior Democratic sources.

While the strategy is fluid, House Democrats hope to pass a funding bill shortly after members are sworn in. They believe that would put pressure on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to follow suit. And they’re are confident that their political leverage will only increase the longer the shutdown lasts — a notion that some GOP leaders agree with privately.

“We want … the government open and my hope is we can get it opened before Jan. 3,” said Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.), the incoming Rules Committee chairman. “If not, one of the first things we’ll do will be to move to pass legislation to re-open the government. And the president can decide whether he wants to sign it or not.”

“I believe Democrats are going to move [to end the shutdown] on Jan. 3,” added Rep. Gerry Connolly, a Virginia Democrat whose district includes thousands of federal employees. “It’s got to be the first item of business.”

partial government shutdown began last weekend after President Trump rejected a stopgap funding bill that was approved in both the Senate and the House, but didn’t include the $5 billion for border wall funding.

The House reworked the bill adding $5 billion in border wall funding which passed in a 215-185 vote.

The Senate Democrats however, rejected the bill which resulted in a Schumer shutdown.

The President is digging in his heels and blaming Schumer and the Democrats for the shutdown.

  1. I hope our President keep the government shutdown. As the only thing the Democrats seem able to do is fund illegal gate crashers while millions of americans live on the streets of this country. They believe we should take care of everybody but the children of this country. I would be willing to bet most of our homeless people are democrats and they are there because of the policies of this do nothing body of useless people. They can cry all they want about our president being unfit for office. While they and their party are a bunch of over paid do nothing unless its for the rich lobbying gangs who line their pockets. While they scheme to get rid of the best man in the office since JFK , I am a 73 yr old Ex Democrat Ron Paul and Donald John Trump is the only two Republicans l ever voted forNow l vote for the ones who get the job done and act on behalf of what the people of this nations vote for. These sorry excuses for law makers is the worst disgrace in our nations history. Criminals in action selling out americans like Chinese trinkets. A bunch of treasonous hypocrites. Who should be behind bars. Also stop stealing votes.

    1. Essie, I’m in my 60s and I remember very clearly the day JFK died. I wholeheartedly agree with you! I voted Dem for 40 yrs but saw the horror show they were in 2016. I looked to Trump, checked him out and was delighted. I knew we had the right man for the job when I watched him give the inaugural speech. I love this man and I love watching him take down the bad guys. I’m with you, sister, I’m only votiing for those who will support and protect America and Americans. Why is that so hard for the Dems to understand? They must really be stupid.
