How A Blocked Root Chakra Impacts You

Sylvia Landa – Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel. Chakras are spinning circular energy centers in the body. There are seven main chakras which are aligned vertically along the spinal cord.

The first chakra is the root chakra, also known as the base chakra and muladhara. Muladhara is a Sanskrit word meaning foundation. The root chakra is located at the base of the spine just above the perineum. The color associated with the root chakra is red.

Earth tones like black and brown are also associated with the root chakra. The root chakra rules our foundation in life. The Earth, our family, our “roots”. This energy center rules survival and our primal animalistic fight or flight instincts. The physical body, our shelter, tribe, basic needs and material wealth are also ruled by the root chakra.

You have probably heard the word chakra used so much it has become a trigger word like “twin flame”. You may even have some basic knowledge of chakras and know they are somehow associated with yoga and look like a rainbow. There are many spiritually devoted people that can gleefully discuss chakras for hours. My ears are already begging for mercy. That is, until I discovered how important they really are!

Like many of you, I read many articles, books, and have watched videos and webinars on various metaphysical topics to stay educated about my ascension. I have even collected information on chakras that I threw somewhere way, way back in a dark closet in my brain assuming it was interesting but not practical. Until one day, I began receiving intuitive guidance that my root chakra was blocked.

My first instinct was to deny that I was actually receiving that message. I ignored it. Then the issues became bigger and scarier. Literally pushing me to take control. Thus beginning my journey to balancing my root chakra.

Signs of an imbalanced root chakra can be financial issues, housing issues, weight issues, health issues, feeling like you don’t belong, fear, anxiety, insomnia. Any issues regarding the physical body can be attributed to the root chakra as well.

My investigative approach was to stay neutral and curious as I began to take inventory of any challenges I was experiencing currently. What I discovered both terrified and excited me. I was terrified because I had to admit what a mess I found myself in. However, totally excited because I knew what the issue was and could now plan and take strategic action.

I had been hassling with the mortgage lender = housing/shelter. Root chakra blockage! For months I had been detoxing, fasting, dieting, starving, you name it, yet the scale did not budge = physical health. Root chakra blockage! I found myself having just barely enough to get by financially = basic needs/money/wealth. Root chakra blockage!

What finally scared me to take action was my dangerously low iron levels = blood/physical health/body. Major root chakra blockage! Blood is the basic building block of life. My literal foundation. This was a huge reality check because I have always been very healthy. My body was screaming at me to do something about it in a way that I could no longer avoid.

As I delved into researching how to balance the root chakra, I discovered there is no overnight quick fix remedy. It requires focused attention on that area to learn what it is that has caused the blockage.

The root chakra rules your foundation in life, your family, your “roots”. Ask yourself, has anything happened in any of these areas of your life in the past? Do you have any wounding or trauma related in any of these areas? I had to admit to myself I was raised in a very toxic abusive family where I never felt safe.

My basic needs were often scarce. Physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, verbal abuse and financial struggle surrounded me daily for years. These traumas often scar you and wound the root chakra and can be reignited if a similar theme is activated later in life like a divorce, job loss or death. In my case it was a job loss that led to a divorce.

Some overactive root chakra indicators can be: laziness, depression, fearing change, materialistic, obesity, rigid boundaries, greedy, fatigue, over stimulation of genitals, and hoarding.

Some under-active root chakra indicators can be: anxiety, paranoia, panic attacks, scatter-brained, unorganized, sloppiness, poor hygiene, confusion, suspicion, underweight, having poor boundaries, withdrawn, financial struggles, and phobias. These are just some indicators.

There are many things you can do to balance and strengthen the root chakra. Grounding yourself to the Earth with your bare feet to the grass. Walking in nature. Having Reiki energy healing to the root chakra. Having a CTT (Consciousness Transformation Techniques) session targeted at the root chakra. Kundalini Yoga. There are even chakra healing tattoos you can wear on your body to strengthen any particular chakra. It is not recommended to wear all seven tattoos at once as it can overwhelm your energy system.

Start at the first chakra with your focus on the root and as you acclimate yourself and begin to see results before you move onto the next chakra. You can also wear the root chakra colors: red, black, brown. You can carry crystals that empower the root chakra such as: rubies, red carnelian, garnet, obsidian, black tourmaline, red jasper, tigers eye, and bloodstone. Soaking in a hot, relaxing Epsom salt bath with root chakra crystals.

There are various meditations to heal the root chakra that include chanting mantras such as the root chakra mantra “LAM” (pronounced “lum”), guided visualization meditations, or you can meditate on your own focusing your breathing as if you are breathing in and out of your root chakra.

Picture the root chakra energy as a glowing red ball at the base of your spine. Imagine that ball getting brighter and bigger and bigger until large cones of bright red light radiating from the front of your body and out of the back of your body. See the energy spinning in a bright red circle becoming stronger and stronger. Focus on the areas you are wishing to strengthen and allow yourself to claim the parts of you that you may have previously rejected.

In this society, we are trained as very young children to avoid displaying any negative emotions so as to not upset anyone else. We are taught to stuff those emotions deep down and deny having them at all.

What root chakra related emotions are you denying? Are you discarding the part of you that has felt afraid? Judgmental, angry, lazy, greedy? Claim it. Give yourself permission to feel that emotion. Admit that you have felt that way and it is perfectly reasonable given the circumstances you may have found yourself in at that time.

Once you see that you are not “wrong” for having felt that emotion it no longer lives outside of you. Invite that aspect of your soul back “home” that “ran away” because you shunned it. Welcome it back into your heart where you vow to keep it safe and protected. A balanced root chakra will manifest as a solid secure foundation. Safe, confident and healthy. It will be evident in your finances, home and physical and emotional health.
