How You Can Help Others During the Current Crisis

coronavirusThe coronavirus pandemic has led to disastrous situations for many people around the world. Those who worked in hospitality and entertainment, for example, may have suddenly found themselves in a position where their stable income has been taken away and are struggling financially through no fault of their own.

As a result of the pandemic, people are not only feeling more anxious and stressed out about their health and the health of their loved ones, but many are also wondering how they are going to pay their bills and put food on the table. But one good thing to come out of the pandemic is that it has brought communities together and brought out the best in many people. If you want to be there to help and support others during the current crisis, here are some of the best ways to do it.

Consider Peer Support Work

Peer support work allows you to share your knowledge and expertise with others who are going through a crisis. Whether you’ve overcome tough times in the past, managed to beat addiction or have successfully learned to manage your own mental health conditions, there’s no better way to give back than by helping others going through problems of their own.

Hushley is a peer support app offering peer support job opportunities to people who have gained NCPS certification. You can supplement your income by working as a freelance peer with Hushley or you might even consider it full-time. Working as a peer support specialist allows you to anonymously and remotely support others who need it the most.

You will be paid either per message or per minute of each conversation that you have, and it’s all COVID19-safe since you’ll be working from your device at home. If you want to try peer support work with Hushley, get started by watching this video that explains what they do.

Donate Food

Food is something that we all need to survive but sadly, the current crisis has led to unprecedented amounts of food poverty. With more people than ever out of work due to the pandemic, it has led to many individuals and families struggling to feed themselves after the bills have been paid.

If you’re doing okay in these current times and are in a position to help, donating food is a great idea as it helps ensure that nobody in your community has to go hungry. Speak to local charitable organizations and churches that provide people in need with food to see what’s in high demand right now.

Be aware that in times of crisis, children and seniors are usually among the most vulnerable to its effects. Fortunately other ways to help hungry kids (and adults) exist, in addition to food donation.

Help Your Neighbors

You may have elderly neighbors who are struggling to get out due to health concerns regarding the virus, or perhaps you know that a neighbor is struggling financially due to losing their job as a result of the pandemic.

Speaking to people in your neighborhood is a great place to start and make sure that everybody knows that your door is always open if they need a helping hand. Simple acts of kindness like grabbing some items from the grocery store for a neighbor who suspects that they might have COVID19 and is isolating at home, or preparing a hot lunch for a neighbor who’s struggling financially, can go a long way.

Help the Homeless

Homeless people are in a very precarious position due to COVID19 as they simply do not have anywhere to stay safe from the virus. And, with the pandemic leading to serious numbers of job losses and financial difficulty, we are likely to see even more homeless people on the streets this winter.

There are several things that you can do to help people who have found themselves in this position. Find soup kitchens and charities in your local area that work to provide homeless people with shelter, warmth, and food and volunteer your time, or clear out your closet of any warm clothes that you no longer need and might be of more use to somebody else.

Follow the Guidelines

Finally, one of the main things that you can do right now to help others is to follow the COVID19 guidelines for your area. Even if you are not in a position to volunteer time or donate food and other items to help others during this crisis, you might save somebody’s life by staying at home as much as you can, respecting social distancing rules when outdoors, and wearing a mask or face covering at all times when out in public unless you are exempt from doing so due to medical reasons. These scientific guidelines are there for a reason and the more we adhere to them, the easier it will be to get the crisis back under control.

The world is currently in a state of crisis, and community spirit is needed now more than ever before. Thankfully, there are many different ways that anybody can help others during these uncertain times.
