Why MCT Oil is The Best Healthy Fat for Your Diet

MCT oilMCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) are fatty acids that are carefully extracted from palm, coconut or palm oils. It can also be obtained from goat’s milk, ghee, as well as the camphor tree.

What are health benefits of MCT oil?

MCT oil has many benefits. These include:

Blood Sugar Reduction

– MCTs enhance ketone body production and the natural normalization of blood sugar.

– MCT oil improves metabolism, cognitive function and reduces inflammation.

– Many dieters use MCT oil for ketosis.

MCT oil is potent.  Blood sugar levels have been known to drop significantly with just a single oral dose of the oil. According to US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health Search this is as a result of a decrease in liver output of glucose rather than an increase in the bodies’ utilization of glucose.

– MCT oil greatly improves carbohydrate tolerance and prevents the production of fatty acids in fat tissue (adipose).

Improved athletic performance

This is excellent news for athletes looking for healthy ways to enhance athletic performance or any type of physical exertion. MCTs have a high energy density, with a quick absorption rate via the digestive tract and rapid metabolic conversion into cellular energy.

Athletes using MCTs benefit in both pre- and post-workouts. It’s one of the healthiest forms of fat to consume before and after exercise because of its rapid mobilization. It rebuilds muscles and eliminates the risk of catabolic breakdown of proteins after intense activities.

Appetite control and enhanced weight loss

One of the primary reasons for weight gain is increased appetite. MCT allows you to feel satiated for longer, which stops you from indulging in unhealthy snacks.

According to a study made by Coleman, Quinn, and Clegg (2016), Medium-Chain Triglycerides may increase satiety.

MCT does not control your appetite by magic. It works by stimulating peptide YY and leptin; these are hunger hormones, which tell your brain that you do not need food.

MCT works both physiologically, and psychologicall.  Leptin (with the influence of MCT) informs the brain you do not need food (psychologically) and it literary keeps you full (physiologically).

“Bad” cholesterol reduction

A study performed in 2009 found that coconut oil leads to an increase in HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) and a reduction in LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol). Reducing cholesterol reduces the risk of strokes, atherosclerosis and heart-related diseases as MCTs have an anti-coagulation effect and a positive impact on autoimmune reactions.

MCTS have fewer calories than regular oil

MCT oil contains 10% fewer calories compared to Long Chain Triglycerides (LCT) according to Nutrition Review. They speed metabolism as stated earlier and use it as energy much faster than LCTs because they are absorbed and sent to the liver.

When you replace regular oil with MCT oil you ingest fewer calories per serving, increase your sense of satiety and is immediately used as fuel instead of being stored as fat. The energy burning properties of MCTs keep you feeling fuller for longer, and lowers your food intake. In addition MCT oil acts as a potent antioxidant and reduces tissue requirements for vitamin E.

  1. In India, we mostly use Coconut oil is one great source of MCTs — roughly 62 percent to 65 percent of the fatty acids in coconut oil are MCTs — but recently more concentrated “MCT oil” has also been growing in popularity.
