♦ Barcelona: This is not only one of the top 5 cities in Spain, but also one of the top cities visited around the world as it would definitely make the top of the list of any traveler’s destination. This Catalonian city is usually flocked with travelers because of its architectural appeal put together by Antoni Gaudi, an architecture genius. Most of the buildings designed by him are absolutely spectacular, and as a result, most people who visit these buildings get to pay a gate fee.

One of the buildings designed by Gaudi is the Sagrada Familia which looks like something from a fairy tale so you definitely would want to take a look at the interior of this building. Another one is Park Guell – a park that is full of flower gardens, colorful tiles and unusual house designs. There are several other buildings such as Casa Batiló and Casa Milá in the city and provided you are a fan of architectural works, looking at them from outside wouldn’t suffice for you to appreciate them enough.

Getting through the city on foot wouldn’t be advisable due to its large size so it would be best to get a T10 metro pass which would get you through 10 metro journeys at a total fee of 10 euros.

♦ Madrid: The bustling city life, history and beauty are few of the many perks this metropolis has to offer to any student visiting this city. Being the capital of Spain, this city is expected to be packed with many attractions and tourist sites, which would definitely cost money. While this is true, you can get into a number of parks and gardens like Parque Retiro without having the need to pay.

With a student ID, you can also get into some museums and art galleries in Spain for free. One of such examples is the Museo Nacional Del Prado – one of the most celebrated museums around the world. This art museum is home to several jaw-dropping artworks essential for every student traveler to see. The city is packed with places that have not so obvious discounts so be sure to communicate with the locals to get help or check online, so you can get the best out of your stay in Madrid using your student ID without having to pay for a couple of things.

♦ Alicante: There are so many free activities to enjoy in Alicante and peculiar to this city are two castles – Castell de Sant Ferran and Santa Bárbara Castle sitting atop small mountains. These castles can be accessed for free by hiking to the top of the mountain in order to enjoy an eagle’s eye view of the ocean and the city.

After hiking, you can enjoy the sun by going down to the beach or the Alicante Marina – both of which offer free access. However free, they both have very expensive restaurants and bars around, so it is always advisable to look for food and drinks somewhere else in the city. While there may be several locations to be visited in this city with the fear of expensive transport fares, the small size of the city makes it possible for all these locations to be accessed on foot.

♦ Valencia: Touring the third largest city in Spain is best done by biking, walking or running through the massive green garden that stretches along the city center. Touring most of the buildings in this city are not free, but they are definitely worth paying a couple euros for.

Another spectacular sight is the City of Arts and Sciences, particularly for those who love marine sciences. Touring the outside of the building could be okay, but it would be best to get a glimpse of the museum by paying the entrance fee.

♦ Murcia: Although not a popular tourist destination, this city is one of the cheapest cities in Spain but still rich in its cultural prowess which can be seen particularly in its Cathedral. The Cathedral is surrounded by other fascinating monuments and churches which adds to the beauty of its surroundings. For budget travelers like students, eating out at night can be tempting but expensive, and that is why the option of visiting the Murcia central market to get fruits and vegetables, bread, cheese or ready-made meals is best especially if you need to save money.
