The West That Was: America, 1910

The West That Was: America, 1910Paul Rosenberg – 1910 was well before my own time, of course, but I knew at least ten people who lived through it as adults, and discussed the era at some length with one of them, my great uncle Dave. And so this is an era I feel I can still reach out and touch.

One of the more interesting things about this era regards our separation from it. The great event that forged this divide was World War I, which is greatly under-appreciated in modern discourse. Schools cover World War II in great depth, but run through World War I fairly quickly. World War I, however – “The Great War” – changed human affairs and human consciousness far more than World War II did. The world before and the world afterward were very different places. How to Gain Confidence and Courage

couragePaul Rosenberg – All of us enjoy feeling confident, or at least we dislike feeling confused and weak. We also like feeling that we’ve been brave and not cowardly. But how do we get these things? If you’re at all like me, how to get them was never really explained to you. It all seemed like magic. Either you have the secret ingredients or you don’t.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Let’s start with the basics:

Confidence is an opinion that you hold about yourself. It would have to be, wouldn’t it? You either believe that you are able to do a thing, or you don’t. Continue reading

Welcome to a beautiful day, courtesy of beautiful energetics.

One of the primary dynamics in effect today is to not make things harder than they need to be.  When we ease up, things will begin to flow and even lead to something fulfilling (dare I say fun?).

In the spirit of this theme, let’s lay out the day’s the energetics, and then get on to something else.

1– Release struggleWe are in the time of the solar-lunar year that is like a month-long Crescent Moon phase.  Crescent phases are characterized by perseverance through challenges — what could also be described as struggling through difficulties.  The struggle is not necessary.  Struggling involves judgment.  Perseverance means we just keep showing up, keep going, head forward, without stopping.  The wisdom of the Crescent phase energy is “Don’t give up; don’t ever give up.” – basketball coaching legend Jim Valvano.  Struggling is exhausting.  Releasing the need to push for a specific outcome is much easier on the body, mind, and soul.

When the Truth is Found to be Lies, Confidence in Currency Dies

liesGary Christenson – In 1967 the Jefferson Airplane sang:

“When the truth is found to be lies,
And all the joy within you dies…”

Restating this for economies and global currencies, one might say:

When the truth is found to be lies,
Confidence in currency dies.

What Lies?  Really?  There have been so many.  Here are a few examples specific to the United States (the lies in other countries are probably similar):

Lyndon Johnson: In 1965, after decades of excessive government expenditures which caused rising consumer price inflation and rising gold and silver prices, Johnson removed silver from U.S. coins.  He stated,

“If anybody has any idea of hoarding our silver coins, let me say this. Treasury has a lot of silver on hand, and it can be, and it will be used to keep the price of silver in line with its value in our present silver coin. There will be no profit in holding them out of circulation for the value of their silver content.”

He lied.  One hundred dollars purchased 77 ounces of silver in 1965.  A decade later $100 purchased 24 ounces of silver.  Four decades later $100 purchased 13 ounces of silver.  In 2025 $100 will probably purchase less than one ounce of silver.
