The COVID-19 crisis knocked the wind out of the economic sails of too many countries. Jamaica was among them. However, making a comeback is nothing new to this island nation. The country’s economy has weathered the financial crisis of the 90s and the global economic meltdown of 2008. Now Jamaica is ready to bounce back again.
Impact of COVID-19
Jamaica’s economy is expected to shrink by 5% as a result of the crisis. The country’s minister of Finance and Public Service Dr. Nigel Clarke stated as much. The Jamaican finance ministry is bracing for a double digit decline in government revenues. Much of this is on account of increased expenditure on health and support services. There’s no doubt that the impact of COVID-19 has severely permeated through all fabrics of society: leaving us with a tattered job market, a disrupted global economy, and an unshakeable worry of all health risks. With retrenchments, lay-offs, and no-pay leaves looming around every corner, it seems as if woe has fallen upon both employers and employees alike –– especially for those in the entertainment, travel, retail and F&B industry, who have undoubtedly been hit the hardest.

Cristina Laila – A Tennessee man received a letter in mail claiming his mother, who passed away in February of this year from COPD, tested positive for Covid-19 from a test taken in June.
“I’m just having a hard time understanding how they can say someone has COVID-19 when they are not even alive,” Troy Whittington told WKYC.
Mr. Wittington said the letter arrived from Shelby County Health Department demanding his mother isolate because she had just tested positive for Covid-19.
