Commerce Has Been Polluted

commercePaul Rosenberg – I am a long-time advocate of free markets. Voluntary commerce is more or less the only moral way for humans to cooperate on a large scale; everything else involves coercion. And as a bonus, free markets work better than anything else.

That does not, however, mean that free markets deliver perfection, or that private businesses can’t be criminal. Private businesses can be abominable, and sometimes are. Understand this, please:

Markets are neutral structures. The only morality they have is the morality we bring to them. Continue reading

Innovations Promoting Environmental Issues

deforestationThe world is coming to an end soon! How many times have you come across that warning… numerous, we would guess. It comes as old news that the environment is suffering just as fast as the world is evolving. The rapid use of natural resources, the greed with which acres of green lands have turned into acquisitions, and the thousands of species that have just vanished, all present a liability that we as human beings can no longer leverage.

The environmental issues at stake can be narrowed down to 6 pressing concerns:

Climate change, which presents an equally alarming threat for droughts, heat waves, wildfires and floods. These outcomes come as a result of the growing use of fossil fuels emitting enormous amounts of harmful carbon which drastically shifts the climate towards rapid warmth, that today, many previously known as ‘cold countries’ are currently suffering from. And, yet, no strict policy has been issued to ban their use and force their replacement by sustainable energy forms. Continue reading

Why Aren’t Consumers Made Aware of Electromagnetic Pollution?

pollutionCatherine J. Frompovich – Humans and technology are the primary contributors to all pollution, either inadvertently or deliberately.

Manufacturing processes; obtaining raw materials and resources (mining and forest destruction, etc.); and technological ‘advances’ – more often than not – are the major contributors along with vehicular exhausts and ever-increasing road traffic.

Man-made pollution and its devastating ecological and adverse health effects have been referred to as “anthropogenic activity,” meaning changes made in Nature made by people.  Here are some of the more commonly known pollution problems:

Agricultural; Air; Chemical; Hazardous Waste; Light; Noise; Radioactive; Soil; Thermal and Water

However, the above pollution listing is not complete! Missing are: Continue reading

Getting Away with Ecocide

Carolanne Wright – Facing a surge in lawsuits across the United States, chemical giant Monsanto has been given a gift of sorts from the government — one that could let the corporation off the hook for its role in decades of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) pollution, effectively saving the company millions of dollars in settlements.

monsantoPay no mind to research that demonstrates PCBs are exceptionally toxic to humans, wildlife and the environment. Also turn a blind eye to the fact that Monsanto knew for decades the chemical was extremely poisonous. And ignore that the corporation not only continued to manufacture the chemical after recognizing its toxicity, but decided it was a good idea to dump tonnes of raw PCBs into a creek adjacent to the chemical plant, essentially poisoning an entire community over the course of 40 years. For the grand finale, lets add a provision into a chemical reform bill, which protects Monsanto from lawsuits concerning said PCB contamination.

As noted by The Environmental Working Group: “Slipped at the last minute into the House version, H.R. 2576, of a bill to update the broken Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 is a provision that could shield the company from liability for decades of pollution with a family of chemicals made only by Monsanto: polychlorinated biphenyls, better known as PCBs. While the insertion was so subtle many lawmakers probably did not even notice it, the implications of the Monsanto bailout clause are huge. The implications of the provision — added at the last minute — are significant enough that perhaps it should be called the “Monsanto bailout clause.”

Are Smart Meters in Same Category as Flint, Michigan’s Leaded Water?

smart metersCatherine J Frompovich – In the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, area there’s a tremendous show of support and solidarity for the people of Flint, Michigan, being forced to drink tap water that was contained with lead (Pb) for a year, perhaps more. Several Philadelphians have taken it upon themselves to conduct bottled water campaigns, which netted thousands of bottles of water. They even drove a truckload of bottled water to Flint, and then delivered it door-to-door. That’s how the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, shows its concern for others!

That concern has not stopped with ordinary citizens. Philadelphia leaders also got involved and showed their support. [1] PA State Representative Vanessa Lowery Brown is on record as saying, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” recalling the words of Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

However, Minister Rodney Muhammad probably sized up the Flint water crises more accurately when he said, “This is not a government mishap. This is a crime.” [1] Muhammad inferred that yellow crime tape should be strung around the perimeter of Flint city! Councilwoman Helen Gym said the Philadelphia City Council is joining in the national outcry for the Department of Justice to conduct an investigation.

What happened in Flint was not an environmental problem, it was a man-made crisis and man-made crime. [1]

Let’s take that last statement just a bit further and apply it to all the issues citizens have to suffer with and from due to “man-made crimes,” especially AMI Smart Meters that are forced on everyone and their homes under the guise of “saving consumers money.”
