Benefits Of Adding Baking Soda To Your Coffee

Katherine Marko – Even the best “high quality” dark roasts can make an acidic cup of coffee, though cheaper blends are notorious for being overly acidic. And acid can be hard on a sensitive stomach, particularly if you enjoy more than one cup of coffee a day. So how does baking soda improve an acidic cup of Joe?

Even the best coffee beans produce acid

Beyond using it as a natural cleaning agent to remove stains for your coffee pot, some believe that baking soda can actually improve the taste of coffee. It’s no secret that coffee can be a tad acidic. But for many, giving up their morning cup of coffee is not an option.

Healing the Kidneys with Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda)

kidneysDr Mark Sircus – Sodium bicarbonate is not only an excellent agent for natural chemotherapy, bringing as it does higher O2 levels through increased alkalinity to the cells, it is also one of the most basic medicines we have for kidney disease.

New research by British scientists at the Royal London Hospital shows that sodium bicarbonate can dramatically slow the progress of chronic kidney disease.[1] Continue reading

Baking Soda May Reduce Premature Death Risk

Stephen Seifert – Research published this month in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology found that having balanced baking soda, or bicarbonate, levels in your body could reduce your chances of an early death.

The study examined data compiled in the Health, Aging and Body Composition Study for 2,287 participants. Participants were healthy adults who, at the onset of the study in 1997, were between the ages of 70 and 79, and were followed for approximately 10 years. Survival data were gathered through February 2014.

What did they find?

Study author Dr. Kalani Raphael, associate professor and nephrology and hypertension specialist at the University of Utah, and colleagues investigated pH, carbon dioxide and bicarbonate in association with long-term survival. According to the University of Utah press release, “Critically ill patients with severe acid-base abnormalities have a very low likelihood of surviving their illness, but it’s unclear whether more subtle changes in the body’s acid-base status have an effect on the longevity of relatively healthy older people.” Continue reading

Aluminum-free baking soda recommended ~g

BakingSoda_AluminumFreeThere are countless uses for baking soda, and I could never possibly list them all. I doubt there is any off-the-shelf substance that is cheaper or more versatile, and lately there’s been an explosion of “do it yourself” recipes and concoctions on the internet. It’s been used for dealing with rashes, bug bites, cleaning dishes, cleaning clothes, heartburn and lord knows what else. Today I’m going to focus on a particularly useful niche. Personal Hygiene.

Almost everything listed below are examples I use daily. Not only that, but I’ve used them without mixing the baking soda with anything else. This stuff is pretty incredible in its powdered form, and that makes it a must have for Preppers. Sure, there’s plenty of recipes out there that will make it way easier and comfortable to use. But, Preppers need things that are simple, portable, and cheap. What if you don’t have all of the ingredients to make your favorite shampoo? After disaster strikes, you won’t be able to run down to the store and pick up your apple cider vinegar.

Never fear, because baking soda’s got your back, and you can use it all by itself. Speaking of shampoo…

For Your Hair

This was one of the first things I used it for. Shampoo had a habit of sucking all of the oils out of my hair, making the strands go completely dry and flat. This gave my hair a kind of… teenage Bieber appearance (yuck). By lathering the baking soda into my scalp, it would clean out about 80-90 percent of the naturally occurring oils, leaving just enough behind to give it a healthy appearance and shape. Not only that, but the baking soda seems to work wonders with dandruff, almost as well as head and shoulders (and with a lot less chemicals than any commercial shampoo). Continue reading

Cat

From day 1, our furry friends are fighting fleas. In the spring and summer months, the flea population tends to multiply, leading owners to come to the rescue.

What You Should Know About Fleas

Fleas have a four stage life cycle; the egg, larvae, the pupa and the adult. Flea products will kill the eggs, larvae and the adults, but nothing can kill the pupae. When you have a flea infestation in your home it can really become a nuisance because they multiply within days and get all over your furniture and bedding. To eliminate fleas from your home you need to remove them from your carpets while killing the eggs and the adult fleas as well.

Chemical treatments to rid fleas can be toxic to pets and can contain ingredients that could harm pets and people. It is critical to read their labels and consult with your veterinarian before applying it to your pet. Rather than bathing your dog in chemicals try some of these natural solutions.

Natural Dog Shampoo

Because chemical flea shampoos can cause adverse reactions, try using this all natural shampoo using some of your pantry staples. Both Dawn dish detergent and white vinegar have cleaning and deodorizing properties that make great ingredients for homemade dog shampoo. Depending on the size of your dog, the recipe may need altering. The following recipe is what I use on my 10 lb. dog.
