Traditional Ways of Promoting Brands – Why Not?

marketingWith all the focus on digital marketing and social media platforms, we’ve ignored or completely forgotten about the traditional methods of brand promotion. The digital environment has put traditional marketing on the back burner, but smart promoters know they cannot totally do away with traditional means, and this is clear in mega companies. These companies still use TV ads, billboards, other printed material and other traditional means, alongside of digital methods.

Before you announce the death of traditional branding, here are a couple of reasons why it’s still effective:

Better at gaining new customers

The Journal of Marketing ran a study entitled, “Effects of Traditional Advertising and Social Messages on Brand-Building Metrics and Customer Acquisition. Of the results from this study was that “traditional advertising is more effective at acquiring new customers.”

Understanding customer behavior

Events and promotions help a business evaluate patterns and get a clear picture of the trends that customers follow which helps in product development, refining your marketing strategy to suit the needs of customers.

Here are a few traditional means that still matter and are key to boosting your brand.

Billboards

Because they reach across all social classes and geographical areas, the billboard never goes obsolete. As they say, ‘a picture speaks a thousand words,’ so it’s important that the image speaks louder than the words. Typically, billboards use less text and focus on compelling images.

Face-to-face interaction

There’s really no better way to achieve personalization than conversing with an audience face-to-face. Attending trade shows or exhibitions are ways to meet up with current and prospective customers. You also want to move around and expand your network during an exhibition. It’s pretty much impossible to attend to your booth and move around, so using the help of promo models or brand ambassadors is the solution.

Trade Show models are more than just a pretty face, and answer crucial questions and give information, being the first contact point with customers. Live Talent works at many trade shows and are a reliable source for finding professional models, and hiring promo models may often make the difference between a successful event for you and one that was a waste of time and money.

Direct mail

Direct mail has a power to influence people because they’re highly personalized and individualized. Examples include postcards with an offer, catalogs, and coupons. Direct mail usually only requires a response rate as low as 1 or 2%, depending on the price of the product and number of pieces sent, to cover the costs and make a profit. The most effective means is to make your message clear and concise for customers to recognize the immediate benefits of your product or service.

A healthy mix

In most cases, the best branding uses both newer and older methods. The important thing is to use a strategy that suits your business. You need to determine the strength of your staff to know which strategies they’re better capable of. You might have some members of your team who are very comfortable with the digital age, and other experienced members who will do better in traditional means. The best mix will generate more sales for your business.
