Trump Blasts Reports He Stormed Out Of Meeting In A ‘Rage’

TrumpJoseph Curl – “Trump storms out of meeting with Pelosi and Schumer,” the CNN headline read.

“Trump rages at Democrats as investigations advance on multiple fronts,” Politico said.

‘Cover-up’ talk enrages Trump,” said the inside-the-Beltway publication The Hill.

That’s how most of the mainstream media portrayed President Trump’s meeting with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday at the White House.

As usual, there was just one problem: It wasn’t true — at all.

“In a letter to her House colleagues, Nancy Pelosi said: ‘President Trump had a temper tantrum for us all to see.’ This is not true. I was purposely very polite and calm, much as I was minutes later with the press in the Rose Garden. Can be easily proven. It is all such a lie!” Trump wrote Thursday on Twitter.

Trump also said on Twitter: “I was extremely calm yesterday with my meeting with Pelosi and Schumer, knowing that they would say I was raging, which they always do, along with their partner, the Fake News Media. Well, so many stories about the meeting use the Rage narrative anyway – Fake & Corrupt Press!”

But The Hill wrote this: “Trump abruptly cut short a meeting with congressional leaders who were at the White House to discuss infrastructure, then walked out to the Rose Garden to air his grievances with them to reporters and television cameras.”

Citing (as usual) an anonymous source, The Hill said: “The president did not shake anyone’s hand or sit in his chair, according to another person familiar with what happened in the room. He said he wanted to work on infrastructure, trade agreements and other issues but argued it wasn’t possible because ‘Speaker Pelosi said something terrible today and accused me of a cover-up.’ ”

Problem: It didn’t happen.

What did happen was Pelosi — just hours before she went to the White House to meet with Trump — accused the president of engaging in a “coverup.” Then, after Trump cut the meeting short, she went before the press to claim she had come to the White House in the “spirit of bipartisanship.”

“We believe the president of the United States is engaged in a coverup,” Pelosi said. “We believe that no one is above the law, including the president of the United States.”

In the Rose Garden, Trump said: “Things are going well, and I said, ‘let’s have the meeting on infrastructure. We’ll get that done easily.” But he added that “instead of walking in happily into a meeting, I walk in to look at people that have just said that I was doing a cover up. I don’t do coverups.”

So much for the “rage narrative.”
