What A Few Missing Trillions Can Buy

DARPAJoseph P Farrell – It’s been a while since we’ve heard from our friends at Lockheed-Martian (as Catherine Fitts likes to call it) or the boys over at the Diabolically Apocalyptic Research Projects Agency (as we like to call it here, after a suggestion from one of our readers J.B.).

But in this case, R.D. spotted this article and it concerns Lockheed-Martian (and probably the Diabolically Apocalyptic Research Projects Agency), with apologies to readers for the mess-up on the copy-paste here, for some reason I could not get it to work properly):

Video: Mysterious aircraft spotted at secret test facility and Lockheed Martin won’t say what it is

Now, I don’t know about you, but the first thing about the videos and pictures here that impressed me was the bit of corroboration it gives to three of my assumptions dealing with secret technology, and finance, and that is that (1) we’re looking at what a few trillions of dollars over several decades can do, and (2) what ever this thing is, it is a very unusual aerodyne, or platform, or whatever it is, and that (3) it looks for all the world like a flying saucer.

The article also notes that the tower in the background looks like the radar cross-section measuring tower at Lockheed’s super secret (and mostly underground) facility in Helendale, California, and having driven near there a couple of times in the last few years, I’d have to concur. And it’s that odd fact that raises a few intriguing questions.

If one looks at the picture carefully, one notices something very odd: there appear to be no jet or rocket exhaust ports. There are three possible explanations for this: (1) There aren’t any, because the platform is just a test bed for radar cross section analysis, and the “whatever-it-is” was not designed to fly; or (2) there are such ports, but we might not be able to see them due to the angle that the picture and video are taken, and/or because the ports are of a highly unusual nature and not easily distinguishable; or (3) there are no such ports because the “whatever-it-is” uses a completely different form of propulsion than rockets and/or jets, and that its propulsion is “exotic.”

In looking at it and pondering these three options, I’m also reminded of the alleged statements of the former Lockheed skunkworks director, the late Ben Rich, whom, you might recall, stated things to the effect that “we have stuff that would make George Lucas envious” and “we found an error in the equations and now we can take ET home.” The “whatever-it-is” certainly looks like something that might have come from a project that these alleged statements describe.

But there’s something else about this article and accompanying pictures and video that intrigues me, and that brings me to the “high octane speculation of the day,” and that’s both the timing of the video, and the fact that Lockheed would be moving something like this around during the day and in view of people who can (and did) take pictures and videos of it. Indeed, the article itself raises the question of Lockheed-Martian’s security. But consider the statement toward the end of the article:

Steve Trimble, the defense editor for Aviation Week, tweeted that he had similar luck trying to get information about the video from Air Force Gen. Mark Kelly.

“I showed this to Gen Mark Kelly, Air Combat Command chief. His immediate reply was that he had no idea what it was,” Trimble tweeted. “And then he took my laptop and stared at it for about 20 seconds. His expression was (WARNING: my impression) somewhere between confused and impressed.”

Again, we’re confronted by some options: General Kelly genuinely did not know what the “whatever-it-is” was, or he knew and was simply dissembling. Let’s consider the first option since it’s the more interesting one. General Kelly might not know what the object was, because he had no need to know; or (even worse), he didn’t know because the whatever-it-is was entirely a private project of Lockheed-Martian having nothing whatsoever to do with the government.

But there’s a further implication to consider with these alternatives – i.e., he did know and was dissembling, or didn’t know because he had no need to know, or didn’t know because this is an entirely secret and merely corporate project – why allow the “whatever” to be seen at all? And why now?

My high octane suspicion is that this act was very deliberate, and designed to send a message in the current geopolitical situation, and with the regime of President* Bidenenko being so weak and incompetent, and that message is addressed to Beijing and Moscow: think twice before becoming too adventurous…

And one can rest assured, the experts in Beijing and Moscow are analyzing this to death, and probably coming to similar conclusions as I’ve outlined here, and then some…

See you on the –

– Oh, and one more thing. I’m also reminded of DARPA’s 100 year, century goal, announced a few years back, of wanting the USA to become “warp capable” within the next century. The only fly in the ointment here is that most engineers currently think that any such “engine” would probably be a doughnut or torus-shaped affair, but it’s worth recalling that goal in this context nonetheless.

Ok, we’re done. See you on the flip side…
