Where There Is a Need There Is a Way – Social Awareness Brought to Light

Everywhere you turn, you see a need. Some people are hungry, some are homeless, some have mental health issues, and then there are those street kids who fall between the cracks. The earth is rapidly being drained of its resources and landfills are beyond capacity. From veterans not getting the care they deserve after faithfully serving the country to the rising drug epidemic sweeping the nation, there is so much which needs to be done but somehow the general public seems apathetic to an increasingly troubled society.

If you are seeking to promote your social awareness group, it’s time you made an all-out effort to bring your mission to light. It’s time to look at ways to market your organization in order to bring people on board with what you are trying to accomplish. Here are a few tips which could help you spread the word.

Social Media’s Reach Can Be Limited

Before throwing your hands up in despair because your latest rally or benefit was less than well-attended, don’t assume people are immune to the cause you are trying to promote. Sometimes it isn’t that people don’t care but rather they hadn’t gotten word of the event you worked so hard to organize.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is to rely on social media to spread the word. Keep in mind that your social followers are already aware of your cause. They care and are actively following you already. Those are not the ones you are trying to reach! It’s time to expand your market.

Don’t Minimize the Effectiveness of Traditional Marketing

Most often, you will be hosting some sort of local event to raise social awareness within your community. Why not check with local radio and television stations that still offer free public service announcements? They may be late night broadcasts, but you can still hit a fairly large audience. Not everyone works a 9 to 5 anymore and you will certainly reach a significant audience still up in the wee hours of the morning.

Print Media Rocks in Local Markets

One of the main reasons why so many social awareness groups shy away from print media is because they are laboring under antiquated understandings of the costs involved. With all the free flyer templates online, it is possible to sit at your PC and quickly create an amazingly artistic flyer to hand out locally at just the cost of a ream or two of paper and, of course, a good color printer. Why color? Because it grabs the attention much, much faster than a mere black & white piece of paper.

Take Every Opportunity to Speak at Schools, Churches and Civic Groups

Finally, remember that people don’t know who you are and what you are trying to promote. Get out and about to speak at schools, church gatherings, civic groups and even other rallies similar to your own. Keep your speech short and to the point. State your purpose, what you are trying to accomplish in a few sentences (or less!) and invite them to join you to make a difference.

Believe it or not, you are living in a time when the population is ready for change, but they don’t know where to start. Most don’t even know you exist. It’s time to use a few good old-fashioned marketing strategies. Get out there and hit the streets. This is how you bring social awareness to light and if you want to make a difference, it all begins now.
