World Series of Poker 2019 Main Event Legends Lose to First-Timer

This year’s World Series of Poker 2019 main event final table had 24 combined WSOP bracelets. Hot poker players like Three-time bracelet winner Benny Glazer and six-time bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu were in attendance to take the big prize.

If you follow WSOP, the big bet was that the all-time bracelet leader Phil Hellmuth with an incredible 15 WSOP bracelets would win his 16th at this year’s event #10 £25,500. Mixed Games Championship.

But it didn’t go that way!

How It Started at the World Series of Poker 2019 Main Event

The event started with a total of 45 entries, which combined a prize pool of £1,068,750 ($1,382,983.88) as the event drew to a close, in the second 8-game final.

Poker heavy hitters such Alex Livingston who finished 7th, Daniel Negreanu, who finished 6th, Julien Martini finished 4th, Dzmitry Urbanovich finished 3rd.

Who Finished First?

The man who beat legendary Phil Helmuth for the top spot and the top-earning of £385,911 ($428,361) was Swiss player Besim Hot.

A few years ago, Hot landed in Las Vegas to capture a gold bracelet to take back to his home country of Switzerland.

Unfortunately, it didn’t go as planned. Just a few years later, to everyone’s surprise at the Mixed Games Championship—he would beat out one of the greatest poker legends.

Hot, who was born in Macedonia, relocated to Zurich, Switzerland, at a young age. With his biggest winning to date, Hot has earned himself more than $2.1 million and has also taken the number one spot on the Swiss All-Time Money list.

This recent win was his biggest payout since 2009.

How It Played Out

Hot maintained the lead to start a three-handed play, but to no one’s surprise, Hellmuth gained ground on him taking out Urbanovich.

Hot took 24,075,000 in chips going head-to-head against Helmuth in the final rendezvous. Hot extended his lead with an 18:1 advantage.

In the final play, Hot moved all in and won the big prize with a Full-house, and the rest is history. Hot took the big prize and also carried out one of the biggest upsets in history.

The Runner Up

Helmuth didn’t do too bad even though he failed to capture his 16th bracelet. Helmuth ended up as the runner up and earned himself a $264,745 payout.

Helmuth has finished as a runner-up in eleven WSOP events to date.
