Contesting Thoughts & Feelings

conjunctionCarmen Di Luccio – We are having a Full Moon in Cancer on December 29th in the Americas and on the 30th elsewhere. It will appear the brightest on the night of the 29th for the majority of the world except for the countries furthest East. This is the peak of the Lunar cycle that began with a New Moon and Total Solar Eclipse In Sagittarius on December 14th/15th.

This Full Moon follows two back to back eclipses which will be affecting the period from this past November until this upcoming spring as part of the backdrop to all the other astrological energies happening. We also recently had a Grand Conjunction in Aquarius which will affect the next 20 years but especially this upcoming year as a time of seeding things pertaining to that energy. I recommend reading those articles here if you haven’t already. I also recently did a podcast here on Collective-Evolution talking about it as well.

The energies of a Full Moon are strongest in the days surrounding it yet its astrological configurations also play a part over the following two weeks. You may also start to see its themes slowly build up after the New Moon prior.

Full Moons are a period in which we feel a push-pull between two opposing signs, in this case being the Moon in Cancer and the Sun in Capricorn. It can play out as either a conflict, an integration, or some sort of dynamic playing out between the energies of both signs. The Moon reflects the expression of feeling and emotion while the Sun reflects the expression of ego and conscious self.

We may feel this opposition happening individually within us and/or we can also experience it play out around us with some people (or circumstances) expressing the Cancer side and others expressing the Capricorn side. In some cases, Full Moons can also reflect/trigger some sort of change or release.

Full Moon In Cancer Opposite Sun and Mercury In Capricorn

The Sun entered Capricorn on the December 21st Solstice as it always does as per the Tropical Zodiac. This is the sign of ambition, achieving, duties, career, productivity, and discipline. It is responsible, cautious, prudent, practical, orderly, masterful, worldly, business oriented, realistic, and a social climber. Capricorn can also be cold, narrow minded, controlling, pessimistic, cynical, and overly concerned with status.

The Full Moon will be highlighting its home sign of Cancer and will be bringing its themes into the equation while in opposition to the Sun in Capricorn. Cancer is the sign of family, domestic needs, security, emotional sensitivity, nurturing, and nostalgia. It is caring, personal, motherly, empathic, vulnerable, instinctual, intuitive and protective. Cancer can also be moody, clingy, insecure, as well as overly subjective.

Mercury is also involved in this configuration as it is in Capricorn near the Sun and will be opposing the Cancerian Moon. This can bring a theme of thoughts vs feelings or mental needs vs emotional needs. We may experience this conflict within ourselves and/or through our relations. If you experience this, the key will be to follow gut feelings.

Venus Square Neptune and Conjunct Lunar South Node

At the time of this Full Moon, Venus in Sagittarius is in a tight square with Neptune. Venus ruled areas such as friendships, love, pleasures, values, money, aesthetics, can be met with Neptune expressions such as confusion, lack of boundaries, illusions, delusion, fantasy, escapism, intoxication, or elusiveness. However, in some cases, this energy can also be highly romantic, creative, and bring a spiritual element into our interactions.

Venus is approaching the Lunar South Node as it will be exactly aligned on December 31st. We may need to release or change something pertaining to Venus ruled areas as mentioned above. Perhaps there are aspects of our social life, relations, how we spend money, or what we do for fun, that needs to be let go. It could also be tied into Sagittarian expressions/themes such as excessiveness, judgement, travel, foreign countries, idealism, beliefs, or opinions.

Mars Approaching End Of Post Retrograde Shadow, Changes Signs While In Hard Aspect

Mars has been in its home sign of Aries since late June due to it being retrograde from September 9th until November 13th. This has been an extended stay here as it is generally in a sign for two months. Its recent retrograde and following it has been a period of recalibrating how we assert ourselves, boundaries, individual needs, and perhaps even how we project our identity, in the areas of our lives that have been affected by it.

We have been in the final phase of this process since mid-November and will conclude on January 2nd/3rd.  At this point we should have had experiences to help us see what we need to be doing differently and how we should focus our efforts, yet more could still unfold in the week following this Full Moon.

Mars will be switching from Aries into Taurus on January 6th/7th and will be moving into a hard square with Saturn. There will be a shift in energy at this time which could bring about frustrations, restrictions, blocks, or obstacles then and over the following days. It would be best to approach things thoroughly, cautiously, patiently, and with practicality.

Things To Consider

In what ways do you need to balance career and ambitions with the needs of your personal life? Are your emotional attachments getting in the way of your productivity? Is your work getting in the way of your personal connections with others? Do you feel emotionally fulfilled, if not, what do you need to change? Do you have domestic responsibilities that you need to attend to? How can you approach your ambitions or career with greater care for others? What can you do to feel more secure?

What do you need to change or let go of when it comes to your social dynamics, friendships, love life, values, style, or finances? In what areas of your life have you been making more progress in over the last six weeks in comparison to the months prior to that? What is that showing you in how you should apply yourself going forward?

These are just some examples of themes that could come up during this period; however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out as well.  If you wish to do any sort of intentional release connected to what has come up at this Full Moon, it is best to do so anytime over the two weeks following when it is waning. The exact moment of this Full Moon is at 3:28am Universal Time on December 30th. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.
