Tips for Managing Practical Matters When Your Focus Is on Spirituality

lifeIf you’re a spiritual person, you know there is far more to life than the mundane, everyday concerns of life. The whole realm of spirituality is accessible to anyone whose mind is open to the possibilities, and once you’ve embraced your spiritual side, wealth, politics, fashion; all the concepts around which life revolves for the majority become far less relevant, and the more you follow the path of spiritual awakening, the less any of those other issues seem to matter.

The problem is that in many ways they do still matter, simply because of the way society functions. You have to earn money to pay for a roof over your head and food to eat, and if you wish to travel to the Himalayas for a meditative retreat, you’ll need to pay for it! As nice as it would be to forget about wealth and all those other concepts, in reality, you have to manage them to a degree if you wish to keep your home and put food on the table.

The best way to manage practical matters is to minimize the amount of time and effort you need to put into them. For example:

  1. Use an automatic switching service to keep your costs down on energy and other services. Monitoring your own bills and manually switching to a cheaper provider takes time and requires keeping such things in mind. A switching service does all the monitoring for you and makes switches automatically when you reach a trigger point, which you can usually set yourself, then they just let you know what’s happened. You don’t have to do anything, just let them get on with it.

  2. Sort out your finances, so all your regular bills are paid by direct debit, then you don’t need to remember to pay them every month. You should set up your credit cards, so they receive regular payments too, either the minimum, a set amount, or the whole lot every month. Again, you don’t need to worry about who you need to pay, and you won’t incur annoying charges from forgetting to make a payment.

  3. Clear up debts and work on improving your credit score. If your credit score is low, it affects all kinds of financial and security transactions, so you might not be able to get a mortgage or rental agreement for instance. Make sure you look carefully at the details of your score to make sure the credit bureau has the facts right, and if they don’t, get them changed. If your distractions and other priorities have led you into more severe debt, get some help in resolving the issues and find out how to remove charge offs from your credit report (see proof). Items like charge offs have a serious impact on your credit rating, and you’ll encounter all sorts of time-consuming and irritating barriers if you don’t sort your credit record out.

  4. Minimalize and organize to clear space and free your mind. Decluttering may be a word you’re fed up of hearing, but it’s a popular concept because it works. Getting rid of all but the essential items in your life is a cathartic process; clearing the junk from your environment clears your mind, and once you’ve decluttered you can organize what remains far more effectively. That means time saved on cleaning and tidying, and you won’t waste so much time on trying to find a specific item.

  5. Living a healthy lifestyle is more than just a sensible way to conduct your life; it also saves you a great deal of time and boosts your energy and well-being. Looking after yourself means you’re less likely to suffer from ill health, so you won’t need to see a doctor or take too many medications. A healthy body is an important part of a spiritual lifestyle too, helping you achieve your goals and further your appreciation of your existence.

Leading a more spiritual life means devoting time to meditation, contemplation, and education, and you should try and block out certain parts of the day in which you can spend your time reading, researching, and practicing your form of spirituality. If you have a defined period of time each day to focus on yourself, you’ll appreciate the consistency and regularity of that period; you should also look at how you can become more spiritual in your daily life, so the benefits of what you’re experiencing are incorporated in all the activities of your day.
